Passionate Faith Through Prayer
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread,
12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you,
15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
Matthew 6: 9-14
Prayer Isn’t Selfish
Matthew 7 :7-8
“ask and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock and it be
opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds,
and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”
Prayer Isn’t a Show
Matthew 6: 5-8
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in
the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you,
they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and
pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And
when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will
be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need
before you ask him.”
Prayer is Powerful
James 5: 13-17
“Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among
you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the
name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if
he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one
another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and
six months it did not rain on the earth.”
Prayer is worship
Prayer is necessary
Prayer is Not Always Easy
Luke 22:44
“And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood
falling down to the ground.”
“I pray because I can’t help myself. I pray because I’m helpless. I pray because the
need flows out of me all the time, waking and sleeping. It doesn’t change God. It
changes me.” C. S. Lewis
