Passionate Faith Creates Boundaries
This week we conclude our look at the relationship aspect of Passionate Faith as we look at setting boundaries. We set boundaries in our world to protect people from danger. We put up guard rails so if a car goes off the road. A guard rail is set up for protection from something more dangerous that could happen. Followers of Jesus put boundaries in our lives so that we can stay away from things that keep us from being more like Christ. We do it in areas that we know we are weak and might have a tendency to capitulate to our sinful desire. This week we want to help our students understand that creating boundaries in our lives helps us to be more like Jesus.
Outline
(1 Thess. 4:3-5)
“For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God.” 1 Thessalonians 4:3–5
Big Idea
Passionate faith does not remove boundaries—it creates them.
Boundaries are not restrictions on joy; they are protections for holiness, freedom, and intimacy with God.
* God’s Will Is Our Sanctification (v. 3)
“This is the will of God, your sanctification…”
What does the word sanctification mean? -- the theological process of being set apart by God and transformed to become more like Jesus Christ, involving both a definitive, once-for-all position in grace and a lifelong, progressive journey of growing in holiness. It is a work of the Holy Spirit, enabling believers to die to sin and live unto righteousness.
